Interview With 'Carach Angren' Frontman 'Seregor'

Through 15 years, amazing Dutch Symphonic/Black Metal Carach Angren has created its own distinctive, unique blend of Horror Metal. Last year, the band has released its 5th Full length "Dance and Laugh Amongst the Rotten."

This year, Carach Angren will haunt Russia, Europe, South America and North America with its horror. I had the chance to chat with Carach Angren members to share thoughts about its upcoming tours, concert, plans, and the most questions that conquered the minds of their fans in the Middle East.

-Firstly, thank you guys for giving me this chance to interview you, and I appreciate your busy schedule, so, 2018 is mainly dedicated to only live shows, as we see, you have concerts in Russia, Europe, and you are headlining two tours for both North, and South America, The question is How could you manage your time? And Do you think that currently South America is a new Market, or destination for boosting Metal music, as many bands listed South America in their tour maps?

We’ve always been busy and every member in our band contributes his own unique way when it comes to fueling the fires of Carach Angren. We manage our time well and I’m pretty sure South America will be an interesting market for Carach Angren.

-You're sharing the stage with different bands during your NA tour, Wolfheart, and Mors Principum Est, can you tell us more about your relation with those bands?

It’s great to have these bands supporting our first headline tour and I don’t know the members personally. But I’m sure I learn more about them during the tour.

-As we are coming through the last months of 2018, will 2019 witness the writing of Carach Angren new album? Do you have a certain story to narrate in your upcoming album? Will the audience touch a new musical progress or a new sound evolution?

Of course we will find a way to provide the audience once more with another masterpiece. We have some thoughts and tunes already and I can assure you it will be dark and terrifying.

-We are talking about your narrative technique, Why do you stick always to concept albums, narrating stores, and horror, as it is one of the questions that conquered the minds of your fans?

Yes we always stick to stories that have a dark or paranormal content. There are many horror stories out there and once we’ve set our mind on a certain concept we slowly build an album around it. We started with ghost saga’s/legends for our lyrics but these days we evolved into more areas in the horror world if it suits the realm of Carach Angren.

-What did inspire you to have this look, makeup, appearance, and who designed your makeup, How long does applying your crops painting take?

It’s simple. Our corpsepaint is based on the skull, Death. We do the designing ourselves. It takes around 45 minutes to get the whole band painted.

-Could you make use of the trending horror films, novels, or maybe games in your music? one of your latest album songs entitled Charlie, Do you mean Charlie game which went viral on social media last year?

Normally we rather stick to stories that are not hyped by any form of media. If you refer to the Charlie Challenge, yes! We chose to call our demon Charlie because the Charlie Challenge is another version of the Ouija board game.

-I remember that you performed in Dubai in Halloween 2016, How was your experience in the Middle East, and How did you evaluate the interaction of fans?

Dubai was one of our best experiences ever. At first we didn’t know what to expect but the crowd turned out to be amazing. Because Halloween some people wore crazy outfits that even distracted me during the performance. So the audience was a show to us like we were to them.

-What are your main musical influences in general? And How do you see the Metal music industry nowadays?

We can be influenced by many things. Movies, Musicians, soundtracks, songs etc. Personally I’m more attracted to melancholic music in whatever form it comes. Carach Angren has become a determined and unique style and sometimes people hear influences we’re not even aware of ourselves. The metal world has changed a lot since the nineties. But it’s a matter of adaptation. As long Carach Angren tours all over the world I know the metal industry smiles upon us.

-Finally, Can you send a message to your fans in the Middle East?

Thanks to all our fans, friends and support. If you don’t know our band and Death fascinates you….. Listen to Carach Angren!
