Interview With Lena Scissorhands from 'Infected Rain'

Infected Rain is one of the strongest European Metal bands, shakes the lands of the north since 2008, fronted by the strong, impressive, Lena Scissorhands.
The band's music is depended on a combination of female screaming vocals, with hard, and dynamic Metal riffs. It released 3 full length albums, alongside its earlier releases.
Since 2012, the band becomes a big name in the European music industry, and it managed to book its name as successful headliner for many major Metal Festivals in Europe.
We had the chance to have an exclusive interview with Lena about her Infected Rain career, future plans, and her hopes.

Hello Lena, this is Rana from JoScene
Firstly, thank you Lena for accepting our invitation for an interview, I want to start with the beginning of Infected Rain, How did the idea of forming a band came to your mind? And why did you choose the name of "Infected Rain"?
"Hello Rana! It is really simple actually. Just bunch of musicians getting together and fooling around, ha!ha! I was just asked to try to sing, although I never did that before, and everyone just liked it. Especially me! I knew right away that I want to learn more and I did, still do. Through the name 'Infected Rain' we want to deliver to people our music like a power of nature that you can’t stop or hide from, and can’t do less than getting infected."
Moving to your vocals whether screaming or clean, can you tell us about how did you discover your vocals skills, and why did you choose those harsh ones?
"Metal always spoke to me! Since I was 13 years old. The extreme vocals made me truly feel something! I write my own lyrics and I want people to feel me and what I sing about! I’m hoping to deliver emotions and extreme vocals help me with that."

A Metal group from Moldova is really amazing, How did you see Rock/Metal scene in Moldova?
"We have a lot of talented musicians for such a small country. Unfortunately we don’t have lots of opportunities or stages to play at. That makes sharing your music with people really difficult, especially in the beginning."
In one of your latest performances, you met the great Angela Gossow, she is one of the leading Female Metal voices, How did you meet her, what did she say about your performance, and did she give you any pieces of advice based on her experience with Arch Enemy?
"That was a really intense and interesting meeting. We played in Angela’s hometown so she decided to come to the show. Her feedback about our performance was really positive and she thinks we are way more powerful on the stage than our image delivers. That was really nice to hear from such a great musician."

I want to move to talk about your latest music video "Orphan Soul", the music video is magnificent piece of art, What is the message you seek to send through this music video?
"Thank you so much!
Orphan Soul is about family, family issues and how that can mark our life forever. Our childhood is very important, it might not necessarily be a happy one, we have to learn how to embrace it. Also it is about power and strength, because it takes a long way and a long time to forgive and accept."
Let's move to your latest album "86", can you tell us more about the concepts of the album, and its process of writing?
"86 was like starting a new page for us. We changed our tuning with the new seven strings guitars. The sound is completely new and fresh. Before it felt like we are still searching for a perfect sound or style, with this album we had no boundaries in creating and writing music. It was a lot of fun to just do what comes from the heart without thinking about what’s right or wrong."

Most of your performances are held in Europe, you started in your home country, then Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, then touring different parts of the same continent, and headlined major festivals there, So, I want to ask you, did you get offers to perform in Asia, North America?
"We get offers every now and then about that, and we consider them all. The only thing that stopped us so far was the difficulty in getting visas. We are an independent band so everything is a little slower when there is no one to hold your back haha!
It is in our plans to tour everywhere possible!"
In 2008 since you started your career, what was your family's feedback, and how did they support you?
"My family was always supportive and positive about anything I do. They like the music we do and the message was deliver. You can see that on their faces when they come to our shows."
Can you tell us unforgettable memory from your first concerts as a headliner, how did you feel? What were your concerns?
"Actually one of the most incredible shows was not long ago. we were playing in Moscow, it was the last show in a really long tour and it was a solo concert, no opening bands, everybody is there for you! It was exciting but a little scary... we had no idea how many people are gonna be there for us. when I stepped on the stage I couldn’t believe my eyes! So many people you don’t even see at some festivals sometimes. I can’t even describe it actually. when so many people are there for you, to support, feel and sing along with you... it’s the best drug ever!"

What are your dreams that you want to achieve in the future, and what are the upcoming plans of Infected Rain?
"Our dream is to share our music in every way possible and to travel everywhere possible for that. We just want to do what we love the most. And we are doing it!
A new album is coming out in 2019, hope the world is ready for us!"
Looking forward for the comping album! Other than that you’re a great singer, we know that you work as a model, since when you’re doing it? And is it your day job when you’re not on stage?
"Thank you so much! I did my first photo shoot when I was 19 years old. We did it for fun and I really like it. Then I worked a lot with models and photographers as a hair and makeup artist. Always loved creating different looks so I started doing that for Infected Rain music videos and more photo art. I’m enjoying a lot working with artists that feel me so well and deliver my ideas perfectly. Little by little it become like a fun side job for me."

Infected Rain fan base in Middle East started to grow, any words for them? And do you see your band performing in our region in the future?
"Thank you so much for your unconditional love and support! We exist because of you! Every and each one of you is special for us and seeing you at our shows makes us extremely happy! We are always going to come back where we are loved and needed!"
Thank you Lena for your time and we are looking forward to see you performing in our region.
